In this exhibition, Eros represents the human drive toward life itself in expressions of beauty, love, desire, intimacy, and inclusivity. The Many Faces of Eros includes bold colors, textures, and expressions of life blooming in an eclectic compilation of abstract, realist, figurative, and erotic paintings.

In earliest Greek mythology, Eros was a primordial deity with no parentage who was a procreator of all life. Later known as the son of Aphrodite, Eros became the god of sex, desire, love, and affection. His Roman counterpart is Cupid, and the Latin name for Eros is Amor.  In the classical world, erotic love was classified as a kind of divine madness also known as theia mania or crazy wisdom.  Beyond just erotic love, an arrow launched from the bow of Eros was thought to bring an overpowering embrace of life in all its awesome magnitude and vicissitudes.   Eros is defined in modern psychology as the drive toward life and building anew while Thanatos is the counter-drive toward self-destruction, war, and death.  Our Eros exhibition includes bold colors, expressions of life blooming, love and desire, intimacy, and inclusivity beyond the heteronormative stereotypes.

I created a new painting for the Many Faces of Eros group show opening this month at Artemesia Gallery in Denver, CO. I wanted to do something especially vibrant and am very happy with the result! This is my largest painting to date at 20x24” and marks my slow shift towards creating larger scale works.

There will also be a couple of my graphite and charcoal works on view at the show.
